The Wolverine Review

Logan (Hugh Jackman) is haunted by his past and has forsaken mankind by living in the wild when Yukio (Rila Fukushima) shows up to inform Logan that her Master a man Logan saved during World War II is dying and wishes to say good bye. Once in Japan Logan learns that everything is not what it appears to be.

My Thoughts:

One of the first things I thought of after this movie was I definitely liked this movie more than the first one.  In my opinion this movie is very fun and enjoyable, but do I think it is a great movie? No I do not. I think it is on par from what we are expecting from a FOX movie nowadays. FOX seems to realize they have made mistakes in the past with their comic based movies and are trying to right the ship as it were and you can see that with X-Men First Class and now with The Wolverine and I am hoping we will see more of it in X-Men Days of Future Past.

What we get in this movie though is a Wolverine who is haunted by the action he took in X-Men 3 an is wondering around lost and living without a purpose. This is shown to us by the many nightmares that Logan has and of his reoccurring dream of Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) laying next to him always questioning him and what he is doing. Its not until we see Logan arrive in Japan and sees that everything is not what it appears to be that the Wolverine we have come to know starts showing up again. And what helps to bring about this change? Logan sees Yashida’s granddaughter Mariko (Tao Okamoto) being hunted by Yakuza and steps in to help her.

This movie is not perfect by a long shot. And I am sure a lot of the die hard fan boys are going to be yelling that they changed the storyline or that the Silver Samurai is not correct. Though I do understand where they are coming from on that point the Silver Samurai is still better in my opinion then what Iron Man 3 did to the Mandarin. This is a good movie. Now I will warn you like I have pretty much done with every movie that I have seen, 3D is a waste of money. I did not get any more enjoyment from this movie because it was in 3D and then you go and add shaky cam effects while your actors are running…ugh. 3D and shaky cam are not needed! I know what it looks like when people run, I have run before, I do not need to see it on the big screen especially not in 3D because all you are making me do is be sick and take my eyes away from the screen.

And of course this part shouldn’t have to be said but obiviously it does because people were leaving the theater as soon as it cut to the credit roll….stay for the easter egg! This Easter Egg ties into X-Men Days of Future Past and brings in two actors that have been missing from the franchise for awhile, though if you go onto IMDB they are listed there.

My Recommendation:

Not like it matters that much anyways because I know you are all going to go see it or at least the die hard X-Men fans will. But go check this movie out it is much better than that origins movie they put out a few years ago. And I believe you will enjoy the ride that this movie takes you on.
